The Message Scheduling Methods of FlexRay Communication Network Based on the Clustering Methods

Abstract—In recent years, standards for vehicle safety have continued to improve, and strict regulations have been developed. When software is gradually integrated with a number of electronic components in the electronic control units of vehicles, substantial amounts of message data are continually sent and received within communication networks. Therefore, assessing the performance of vehicular communication networks and ensuring the accuracy of data transfers is crucial.
The FlexRay communication technology is rapid, stable, and fault-tolerant, and can satisfy the needs of advanced vehicle control systems. However, few studies on the FlexRay communication protocol have analyzed FlexRay event message response time or verified timing performance. Therefore, this study presented two new methods for FlexRay message scheduling to enhance transmission performance within the overall communication network. These methods adopt the K-means clustering method and the hierarchical clustering method for message clustering to reduce network usage within the overall FlexRay communication network, thus enhancing the security of the communication network.
